They Came to the Band Shell

KSCL Poster

This is a poster I created for the Centenary College student radio station KSCL, of which I am the News Director. This poster has a bit of a story.

When first designing the poster, the name of the concert we were planning was "King BigFoot," something we had come up with by combining parts of the names of the different bands which would be playing. Just a week or two before the show would start, however, the "Foot" in "King BigFoot" dropped out of the show, leaving me high and dry with a nice poster design which I had to change. Sadly, my beautiful towering "King BigFoot" title, which I had created to look like an old Sci-Fi movie poster (think "King Kong"), had to go, since it had been traced by hand and the type couldn't be changed. Just a week before the show, I edited the poster and gave the show a different name; "They Came to the Band Shell." And it didn't turn out too bad.

You can see that the style for this poster came from the previous name, though the theme transferred without too much trouble. Instead of the towering "King Kong" text I had planned, I instead went back through old movie posters changed the style to a more Sci-Fi, slanted block letter style.

I edited the KSCL logo (created by Sara Hebert) to look more like the RKO Pictures logo, a tribute to old movies and "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" especially. The screaming woman in the corner is made of very simple colors and shapes to fit with the design of the KSCL logos used in the poster, and also fits with the Horror/Sci-Fi theme.

Credit where credit is due, both the circle logo (besides my small edits) and the stereo logo were created by Sara Hebert.
